Whistler Hikes and Winter Prep!
What a spectacular summer it’s been! And it’s not over yet. We’ve got Whistler hikes and winter prep on the brain. This is the perfect hiking season in Whistler and we took full advantage these past few weeks. There are so many great hikes in and around Whistler to choose from – we did Train Wreck Hike, and Rainbow Lake Loop a while back, but here are our most recent and absolutely stunning Whistler hikes that we would highly recommend before hiking season comes to a close.
Cheakamus Lake Loop! This is such a scenic hike. Just a quick 12 minute drive south of Whistler, turn left at Function Junction and after about 500 metres turn left again onto the Cheakamus Lake logging road. It’s about a 7.5 km drive to the parking lot. A daypass is required through BCParks.ca and they are available starting 2 days prior to the day you wish to use them. An easy and beautiful trail in the trees winds you alongside parts of the river fed by the Cheakamus and the last half of the hike takes you right alongside the pristine and glorious lake itself. It’s an in-and-out hike that ends at a beach where you can take in the views and then head back the way you came for views of the trail and lakes that will feel brand new! We read that the hike on average would take us 4-6 hours but we completed it along with many picture stops and lunch at the beach in under 4 hours. Highly recommend!
Harmony Lake Loop! This hike takes you to what feels like the top of the world! It requires you to have a Whistler Blackcomb Mountain pass which you can purchase on-site before you load up the Gondola. It took us to the Roundhouse at the top of Whistler where we grabbed lunch first. Their chilli is so good! We then followed the signs to Harmony Lake Loop and enjoyed the easy 30 minute gravel, dirt trail, and wooden slat pathways that quickly took us right around Harmony Lake. But don’t stop there! Keep climbing up and around with options to head back to start within about 45 minutes or a more difficult and longer trek option. It’s just so pretty. Once complete, and despite the fog that rolled in, we headed straight to Peak Chair to ride to the very top for a suspension bridge experience on the Cloudraker Skybridge. On a clear day it offers the most breathtaking views, but in our case it was incredibly mysterious as we walked into an abyss of fog. Still a spectacular and spooky experience. Grab your Gondola ticket in the Village and head up for a great day!
